SUSTAINABLE STORY
Experience the Magic
Experience the magic of winter on the Arctic Circle with suppliers who care about sustainable values. There is a purity about Lapland – pristine white drifts of snow, fresh clean air, the dazzle of the Northern Lights on a cold, clear night – and we’d like to keep it that way. Staying in the heart of the nature, in the comfort of your personal unique Aurora cabin, our accommodation base has a strong focus on combining quality with sustainability. Our programme includes a range of activities that are both fun and at the same time will showcase a sustainable way of travelling. Discover the accommodation’s special approach to sustainability in a remote location through a range of seasons, experience the silence of e-snowmobiles, the natural noise of yelping huskies, visit the home of locals, discover the traditions of Finnish sauna, and enjoy local food and drink sourced from fresh natural ingredients.
Sustainable Timing
Staying in the region in late March, this is the perfect “sustainable” time to visit, at the end of the season, and also when the winter daylight hours are at their longest.
Exclusive Access
Those joining our tour get exclusive access to our tour Google My Map for additional information on the tours activities and venues, plus what to see and do in the free time – no-waste access from your phone.
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 - 20 March 2022
Arriving to Rovaniemi, your first experience is likely to be the carbon-neutral city airport, heated with carbon-free products from renewable and locally sourced fuels. Located directly on the Arctic Circle, Rovaniemi survives through extremes of seasons, from the snow-covered winter world of the Northern Lights to summers of 24 hour daylight.
Meet your Tour Manager and like-minded members of our small group over a Lappish beer as a Welcome Drink, before dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Overnight in superior private Aurora cabins (breakfast + dinner included)
DAY 2 - 21 March 2022
After enjoying a full Finnish breakfast buffet, collect a full thermal outfit, yours for the 4 day stay on the Arctic Circle.
Meet yelping husky dogs and hear stories of husky life, whilst posing for photos with these friendly dogs. They will love pulling you through the snowy forest trails on a 7–10 km long safari, where you get to mush your own dog team.
Sustainability in the Arctic
On our private guided tour, learn about the owners’ approach to Arctic sustainability – from recycling, waste and water management, to local culture, animal welfare, and the approach to sustainable food and drink.
DAY 3 - 22 March 2022
Sauna – a Finnish Tradition
Taking a sauna is a Finnish tradition, and so deeply rooted into Finnish culture that no stay here would be complete without one! Included in your package is a 1½ private sauna slot including towels, bathrobe, slippers, and a saunavihta, branches of a birch tree, which along with the humid heat will soothe the skin. A sauna host will guide you through the process.
Optional Activities
The day is also free to enjoy optional activities, such as reindeers, horses, or snowshoes.
Gourmet by the Bonfire – with Aurora Watching
A short walk from your cabins, a magical Lappish evening awaits. Surrounded by atmospheric natural lighting of fire and candles, enjoy traditional Lappish food, prepared by the open fire using local Finnish ingredients.
After this tasty outdoor dinner, relax Arctic-style, as reindeer skins are laid out on the frozen lake for star gazing and aurora hunting, before a special transfer back to your cabins, by Snowtrain.
DAY 4 - 23 March 2022
A Day of Lappish Culture
Today we take an excursion to learn about Lappish culture. Our journey is by small coach, and although hybrid and electric vehicles do not exist as yet in this category, we choose only transport that follows the EU emission EURO 6 standard.
Our first stop visits a small exhibition of Lappish nature photography, where you can meet the photographer over a coffee. We then continue to Arktikum, a science centre and museum where visitors can experience northern nature, culture, and history to get a deeper understanding of the Arctic region.
Reindeer Secrets
At your resort you will surely have seen the reindeers there, and may even have enjoyed an activity with them during your free time. Did you know reindeers shed their antlers every year? Our programme for the afternoon visits the home of a Lappish couple who for a long time have made use of the natural ecological material that is reindeer antlers. They are preserving a Lappish handicraft tradition from working with this exclusive raw material to produce all kinds of jewellery items. You have the opportunity to learn from them and make your own souvenir, aswell as meeting the couple over coffee and cakes in their own log house home.
Overnight in superior private Aurora cabin (breakfast included)
DAY 5 - 24 March 2022
Optional Activities
The day is free to enjoy optional activities, which can include reindeers, horses, or snowshoes, or time for the private sauna slot included in your package.
Overnight in superior private Aurora cabin (breakfast included)
DAY 6 - 25 March 2022
An electric start to the day
This morning we depart our countryside base, we head into the city – a city by Lapland standards – Rovaniemi has a population of just over 50,000.
Travelling by controlled emission small coach, we stop along the way on the shores of Lake Lehtojärvi. Here our E-Snowmobile charging stations stations are located, and we start an exclusive and ecological way of travelling by snowmobile, a silent and emission-free e-sled. The fantastic remote location allows for some great driving in the pure Arctic nature across the frozen lake and through snow-topped forest trails.
The 3 hour tour will include a stop in a Lappish kota sausages (or a vegetarian alternative) are grilled by open fire, and served with hot coffee and and a sweet bun.
Continuing into Rovaniemi, the afternoon is free to explore the town.
Farewell Dinner
As a farewell dinner, we walk across the street to an excellent small local restaurant. Set menus change according to seasonality and local produce availability – but you can choose from a menu based around locally-produced fish and meat, or a Vegan menu, both 5 course menues utilising the season’s best local vegetable selection, and served together with appropriate wine pairings.
Overnight in boutique hotel in Rovaniemi city centre (breakfast & dinner included)
DAY 7: Departure, or extend your stay
On departure day there should be a choice of morning flights back to Helsinki, which then connect to a range of cities worldwide.
